PROFILE

The luminosity of watercolors is what fascinates and draws me to this medium. I like to paint atmospheric watercolors, seldom using the local color of the landscape. I continually try to stretch the boundaries of watercolor - experimenting with different ways to create textures. My paintings are influenced by the shapes in nature and the beautiful surroundings of Northern California and by my previous experiences living in England, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

I studied painting at the Rhodesian School of Art in what is now Zimbabwe and for four years in California with master watercolorist Jerry Stitt, AWS. I live in Marin County, California which has many unspoiled coastal areas, nature parks and trails that inspire many of my watercolors. I teach in-depth watercolor classes online as well as short YouTube demonstrations.

My watercolors are in private collections in Switzerland, United States, South African and the United Kingdom. Prints and cards of my work are also available at fineartamerica.com/jean-lurssen
